Action Plan

For my action plan, I am going to create a Gantt Chart. This would allow me to illustrate my projects schedule. This would allow me to give myself enough time for each element or task, with a start and finishing date.

I would be using the following site to help me create a Gantt Chart : http://www.ganttproject.biz/

Dementors in Harry Potter

The "Dementors" in the film "Harry Potter" gave me an excellent idea, the character would fit inside the opening scene. They are considered to be a dark creatures, that feed on humans. The costume would also be very similar to the Dementor in the clip above.

The "unknown monster" is one of the main roles in film, as it would bring in the horror and intense. The group has discussed that the "unknown monster" would expand on the characteristics on the characteristics of the "Dementors" from the Harry Potter film.

Talking About The Images Taken

Yesterday, I went to the Church on Cowley Road in Oxford, and took a variety of images of the different scenes which may be included in our beginning scene of our film. We took a few images of the main road, which was quite busy, with cars and people walking up and down. I then took variety shots of the graveyard, which different view shots.
As I took the images, I came across a few problems, for example people walking their dogs and  few people smoking inside the graveyard. This made it harder to take the images. The weather was very cold as the snow and frost has settled a slightly.
Overall the images that I have taken are excellent! Seeing that this gives our group an idea where we would want to shoot the beginning scene of the video.

Possible Location Setting

Outside the church would be a great place for the scene of the main character walking along the footpath, as is not too far from the church, and makes the video set more realistic, as the view would include cars and may be a few pedestrians, which should not be a problem.

Here is the entrance of the Church, which would include the scene of the main character walking into the graveyard. The main character would be isolated with graves and trees. This effect would make the chasracter much lower and a indication of something to go wrong.

In this scene, the the main character starts to run in fear, with confusion, and does not know where he is going to end.

At this point, the scene would include the main character is attacked by the monsterous creature.
The main chatacter then runs to the stepped pillar made out of stone, and fades into the the " The Graveyard Massacre".

My Main Target Audience

Age
Personally, the horror film “The Graveyard Massacre” would attract the teenagers and adults around 15 to 25. According to result of my research, I have noticed most o appealing to the young generation and viewed often in cinemas and on television. The following film does not include any underage cast, as everyone who is working on this video would age of 17 to 18. In my opinion, measuring the horror and violence to the BBFC rating, I would recommend it to be “15”, as this would be suitable for my audience.

Gender
In my opinion, males can watch the film on their own; however females may watch it with their family members or friends, rather than on their own, as the shock of horror and terror may affect female more. Moreover, I expect my film to appeal to both male and female.

Sexuality
There would be no issue of sexuality, as the genre is horror.

Nationality
The scenes are going to be filmed in Britain and the language is going to be spoken in English. This should be appealing mainly to the British and American audience and wider audience.

Social/Economic group
In my opinion, this film should not defer from economic groups. This horror film is acceptable for anyone at the right ate, and should not be affected by upper, middle, lower, working class audience. Furthermore, this film includes a macabre story which drifts into reality, which allows the film to be watchable for everyone.

Ethnicity
Ethnicity should not be an issue or problem, when watching this horror movie.

      Titles For Our Film

As a whole group, we have been thinking what we the title of our films should should be called. We started to brain storm a few titles which would be catchy and easy to remember. As we were discussing, we also thought that the title should hint that the story line of the movie is horror.

We came up with a few titles:
      1) The Haunted Graveyard
      2) After The Moon Rises
      3) The Graveyard Massacre
      4)  Death Sentence
      5) Wanted Dead

Out of the five, the group decided to choose “The Graveyard Massacre”, therefore the name is unforgettable, and hints the audience that the genre of the film is horror. The name of the film also important as this would build suspense to the movie.

      Trailer of "The Wolfman (2010)"

Description of 5 minutes into the movie

      Camera angles
At the beginning of the scene, the camera is zooms in stone with narrative speech, which is spoken. The camera closes up to the circle on stone, which fades into a moon, creating a flashback scene. The camera zooms out of the moon, and slowly shows the landscape. High camera angle to low shot of the person with the light, this indicates that someone is watching, and shows that the character is less powerful. Then the long shot side view of the man walking with the lamp, which reveals the surrounding around him. The camera slowly closes up angle, and zooms in. Up front shot angle of the camera zooms on his face, showing his expression of fear. Following with quick shot of the birds flying of ground, and back to his face, implying he’s shook by his face expression. As he turns around, a quick reverse shot is applied, of the person getting scratched by the claws of the wolf. Long shot side view is applied showing the person running away. Following with close up shot of the face, bleeding severely, and then zooms on the person’s feet running. Reverse shot is applied from the claws, showing the person running in front. As the person reaches the steps, the camera is positioned as overhead, indicating something bad is going to happen. The person walking up the stairs, overhead view, and then the camera zooms on the wolf’s feet. The camera applies a medium shot, which shows the person’s features and body language. The camera then zooms in to the wolf’s face, and as the wolf goes to bite the person the camera backs out and sinks into the camera. After a few seconds the camera zooms on title “The Wolfman” on a tombstone.

      Lighting
The lighting of the scene is very dark and spooky, which has a glow which is shining from the moon. The person who is holding the lamp in the dark makes the start more suspense. The light is shining throughout the black dark, makes the audience suspect that something terrible and horrific is going to take place.

      Sound
At the beginning of the movie, the sound effect is very spooky and terrifying; the music is similar to low cords which are being played continuously. When the person is walking, the steps of the sound, and twigs getting crushed below, and as he moves the lamp, the rusty lamp squeaks. A sudden noise, like a something just fallen from the trees, which terrified the birds and they fly off. When the person turns around, the wolf scratches him with his claws, and the sound of the scratch is more exaggerated which makes the audience jump. This also creates more tension. As the person is running away, and the music starts get faster, and include a drum sound, similar to a hear beating slowly. This indicates that he’s going to die.

       Camera cuts/Transitions
There are a few camera cuts in the start of the scene, for instance, as the person walking with the lamp, from a high to view, suddenly goes to a long shot, showing the surroundings and the person walking. Moreover, when the person gets clawed by the wolf, and starts running, and the camera angle changes to long shot, to mid shot, and then zooming to his steps as he runs. The screen direction has been excellent, as the three different camera cut, and flows perfectly shot to shot. The continuality of the driven cut of the pacing of the timing is also just right, which does not include any continuity or cut errors. In addition, as the person is walking in the forest in the dark spooky forest, the audience can understand the environment. The illusion of continually would keep the attention and their imagination fills in the rest.

      Preliminary Task

As I have been working on the preliminary task, I have taken part in a group in constructing the video which is called “The Swap”, which includes different types of camera angle shots; that intends to deliver an effect on the audience. To make the film flow smoothly, the video has been edit by: cutting and joining scences, adding effects, sound. These effects builds up suspence to the video.

The Swap from Ranjjit on Vimeo.

      The 180 Degree Rule
The 180 Degree Rule is a essential guideline, which states the two charaters or elements in the dialoge scene must include left and right  connection with each other. For isntace, when the camera passes over the imaginary line (the dotted line), this makes the scene look very unusual, which is known as a reverse angle. Therfore, if the camera is recoding over the right side shoulder of character A, the same would be recorded over the left side shoulder of character B. This makes the scene more ordinary and flowable.

      Mach On Action
The Mach on action is a editing technique, which shows a action takeing place, then suddenly that view is cut and followed with another view of shot following instantly.
As Furhaad Amed was recoding the video, it was quiete tough getting the timing  perfect of the door opening, so the recording was not so as great before we had edited. For instance, here in Shot A- the buyer (Husaam Hussain) shot from the back opening the door, which then connects to Shot B, with the buyer walking through the door.

      Shot & Reverse Shot
Both Shot and Reverse Shot is a scene between two actors, which includes a left and right link between both actors. This could include dialogue speeches, or object passed. For example: Shot A shows the dealer passing the product and Shot B shows the buyer giving the money for the product.

In my opinion, Furhaad Ahmed and I have assembled the final edited preliminary task brilliantly, as it was very unique, and the way it flowed fluently. Husaam Hussain and I mainly took part in the acting in the film, and took the directions according to Furhaad Amed, who was recording the scene. On the whole, this task has been performed brilliantly and the acting and editing has been excellent. However, there could have been a bit more dialogue in the shot and reverse shot before the giving the item. But overall outstanding work produced by the team.

      Coursework preliminary task

Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.
